What is the facade of the building in Iran?
A short time after man started settling down and building a house, the appearance of the building also became important for him. Of course, the facade of a residential building has long played a more important role than just creating beauty. The facade of a residential building is the boundary between people’s living space and the outside space, and it should prevent adverse factors and effects on the residents’ lives as much as possible.
The facade of a residential building can also reflect people’s tastes, interests, beliefs and traditions. If you have noticed, the facade of the building in the north of Iran is significantly different from the buildings in the central areas. The clear reason for that is the difference in weather conditions and, of course, different beliefs and norms in these regions.
In the last few decades, we have seen that the facades of residential buildings in Iran have gradually become integrated and the previous differences between them have disappeared or faded. By examining the facade of the existing buildings, we can place most of them in one of the styles that we will explain below.
Roman view
As its name suggests, this view is derived from the architecture and view of ancient Roman buildings. Of course, this view is also known as the classic view in the world. The Roman facade gives a special grandeur to the residential building and creates the feeling that people from a special and cultured class live in it.
This façade should be white in its basic state, because Roman buildings were built with light-colored stones. If the Roman facade is chosen for certain buildings such as universities, museums, congress buildings, etc., they may also use Roman-style sculptures in its corners. This happens less often for residential buildings, but there is no law for it and everything depends on the taste, desire and of course the budget of the builder.
It is understandable that for the implementation of this facade of the building, high-quality stone materials are needed, which at the same time have the ability to be cut. In Iran, they usually use marble, granite and travertine natural stones, whose mines are available inside the country. Of course, in recent years, white cement is also used for the execution and implementation of the Roman facade.
What elements and characteristics does the Roman facade have?
To have a building with a real and original Roman facade, these things should be considered and implemented:
- Using columns with a circular cross-section and not using angular columns
- Using small and decorative columns next to other columns
- Using capitals with ancient Roman design
- The use of large arches in which delicate and prominent patterns are carved
- Using all kinds of crescents, window frames, throats, inscriptions, pastons, etc.
