If you want to recover overwritten files, start off with determining if the files are just deleted or are there any new contents that have replaced the original contents of those files. In case the files are deleted but not overwritten, there is a chance that the files can be recovered. There could be a previous version of these files in the Recycle Bin or even in the cloud backups, File History, or older versions of these files. If the files have been overwritten, you should stop using the drive, as more use of the drive can diminish the chances of finding any data left on it.
