Your colleague’s three questions before leaving the car anywhere are genuinely the most useful filter I’ve heard for evaluating workshops quickly. What tests will be carried out, whether the diagnosis fee applies toward the repair, and what warranty covers the work tell you in about two minutes whether a workshop is confident and transparent or vague and noncommittal. A shop that answers all three specifically without hesitation is operating at a different standard from one that deflects or generalizes. Those questions cost you nothing and save potentially significant money.
